my new gig: blogging at Onward Oregon

oh joy, to quote the Scarecrow. i now am an Onward Oregon blogger. and i am glad; i love to write, and i love that i have so much to say. i wish that what needs to be written about wasn't so terribly important. i wish the schools were funded abundantly, that health care was free, that our air and water were clean, that guns were obsolete, that Eric Gagne's elbow was guaranteed for the next 10 years. alas, i am to be sorely disappointed in all this. Gagne's elbow being the possible exception, a good start, but still this means much to write about and work on for a very long time.

and mayhaps one day to do so in a paid capacity. that would be nice, too.

but i'm looking forward to writing on OO's blog. i've been read an excellent book on what liberalism can be in our contemporary politics, but i'm finding that for all the wonderful things liberalism has meant, the real future of human-oriented politics is progressivism. for me, that means a politics in service of the common good and based not on individual rights (including property) but responsibility. what we owe one another, and the general good. OO is clearly stating it's within the new progressive movement, so this should be a terrific opportunity for me to participate in that discussion here in Oregon.
